Religious thriller leads with 12 nominations as newcomers dominate performance categories
The Vatican-set thriller "Conclave" leads this year's BAFTA nominations with 12 nods, followed by "Emilia Pérez" with 11 and "The Brutalist" with nine nominations.
The performance categories welcome an impressive wave of newcomers, with 14 out of 24 nominees receiving their first BAFTA recognition. Notable first-timers include Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez for "Wicked" and "Emilia Pérez" respectively, alongside veterans Guy Pearce and Demi Moore.
Three directors join the nominations list for the first time: Sean Baker ("Anora"), Brady Corbet ("The Brutalist"), and Coralie Fargeat ("The Substance"). Baker leads individual nominations with five nods.
It's been a strong year for female directors, with 12 of the nominated films directed by women. In total, 42 films received nominations across all categories.
The winners will be announced at London's Royal Festival Hall on February 16th, broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer. Meanwhile, the public can vote for the EE Rising Star Award, the ceremony's only audience-voted category.
BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip noted the "fantastically broad spectrum of genres" among this year's nominees, encouraging film fans to catch up on the nominated works before the ceremony.
