Emirates Great Britain Scores Big Win at SailGP Halifax!
The ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix wrapped up in Halifax, and what a show it was!
Despite some crazy weather—think rain, wind, and even a bit of drama—Emirates Great Britain sailed to victory, leaving everyone else in their wake. Talk about a comeback!
"To come out with a win here is massive and it’s nice to be able to put a marker down and prove that you’re capable of winning."
Giles Scott, Skipper, Emirates Great Britain
The conditions were wild, with wind speeds pushing the boats to over 50 knots. Some teams, including the U.S. and Switzerland, couldn’t even hit the water on the second day, thanks to the crazy weather. And let’s not forget the epic capsize by the Australian team—Tom Slingsby called it a "technical issue" with their boat’s controls. Ouch!
The French team and Spain weren’t too far behind, finishing in second and third place. Meanwhile, Canada’s home team had the crowd cheering but ended up sixth overall. Skipper Phil Robertson summed it up best: "We were in pretty good shape going into the last race and we just let it slip away again." Better luck next time, guys!
The action isn’t slowing down, though. Next up is the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix on June 22-23. Imagine watching these high-speed catamarans zipping past the Statue of Liberty! The teams are gearing up, and the competition is only getting tougher.
The race to the Grand Final in San Francisco is heating up.
